The underside of an abandoned rail car can be quite interesting. Massive utilitarian iron and steel above with beautiful simple shapes beneath.
What appears to be a rusty pipe wrench is actually a portion of the undercarriage which holds up that huge weight. The burnished silver arc is the shiny edge of the steel wheel that is 3 feet in diameter.
The use of HDR emphasizes the texture of the rust and dirt build-up.

While visiting a classic car dealer lot I found a shell of a 1950’s Ford pickup truck. Although the truck may be good for nothing but some parts, the painted grille and bumper, abundant rust and broken headlight formed an interesting image.
The texture of the rust and the pattern of the crazed paint were enhanced by using HDR methods.
This photo was selected to receive the Judge’s Choice award at a recent exhibition.
