Berry Creek Falls, 2010
I didn’t realize when I set off on the trail in Big Basin Redwoods State Park (California) to get to Berry Creek Falls that it was marked as a strenuous hike.
These falls are 60 feet high and I wanted to get a shot. I knew they were 6 miles into the forest from the ranger station but it was harder than I expected. After hiking for quite awhile I thought I must be close but a sign along the way showed I was only halfway there.
I almost turned back, but then realized I’d traveled more than a 1,000 miles to get there. I couldn’t just turn around when I only had 3 miles left to go so I kept going.
When I got to the falls I met a couple coming from the other direction. They were the first people I’d seen in hours. There was no cell phone service either so it pays to be careful and watch your step.
